2018 WHL Graduating Class: Week 3

Through the months of July and August, the Western Hockey League is saying β€˜thank you’ to its 2018 graduating class. From July 16 to 20, we extended our gratitude to 10 players who concluded their WHL careers in the 2017-18 season.

Swift Current Broncos forward Giorgio Estephan, who previously served as the captain for the Lethbridge Hurricanes won the Ed Chynoweth Cup this season after posting 86 points in 69 games. He finishes his WHL career with 325 points in 327 games and 51 points in 49 playoff games. Estephan has signed a contract with the Toronto Marlies of the AHL.

Red Deer Rebels assistant captain Mason McCarty doubled his offensive production, scoring 74 points in 69 games this season. He also posted four points in his first five playoff games. McCarty finishes his WHL career with 157 points in 225 games.

Everett Silvertips forward Patrick Bajkov posted 100 points this season, adding another 23 points in 22 playoff games. The 2017-18 All-Star signed a contract with the Florida Panthers after becoming the all time leading scorer in Silvertips history. He now is the all-time leader in goals, assists, and points for the Silvertips.

Kamloops Blazers forward Nicholas Chyzowski played all 343 games with the Kamloops Blazers, serving as their captain this past season. Putting up 46 points in 72 games, Chyzowski has committed to the University of Waterloo to play with the Waterloo Warriors.

Calgary Hitmen forward Conner Chaulk was known for his physical presence while remaining disciplined. He scored 31 points in 56 games this season split with the Swift Current Broncos. He finishes his career with 60 points in 190 games.

Brandon Wheat Kings forward Evan Weinger recorded 146 points in 251 games, playing with Brandon and the Portland Winterhawks. The winger signed a contract with the San Jose Barracuda after recording 57 points in 64 games last season.

Kelowna Rockets defenceman Gordie Ballhorn more than quadrupled his offensive output scoring 42 points in 72 games as a defenceman this season. He joined the Allen Americans for their playoff run upon completion of his WHL season. Ballhorn has committed to the University of Saskatchewan Huskies.

Portland Winterhawks defenceman Keoni Texeira played all 344 games with Portland, recording 143 points. He scored 33 points in 64 games this season, adding three points in 12 playoff games. Texeira will be continuing his playing career with the Wichita Thunder in the ECHL.

Moose Jaw Warriors forward Jayden Halbgewachs had an impressive year, being named to the WHL Eastern All-Star Team, leading the WHL in goals and points, and leading the CHL in points. This impressive year earned him a contract with the San Jose Sharks.

Edmonton Oil Kings goalie Travis Child finished his WHL career with 107 games played as a part of the Swift Current Broncos, Wheat Kings, and Oil Kings. With the Wheat Kings two seasons ago, he recorded a 2.84 GAA with a .894 SVS%. He added one shutout in the playoffs.
