Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club announced Tuesday that the team has acquired forward Ryan Bowen, a second round draft pick in the 2017 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft as well as a conditional draft pick in 2019 in exchange for forward Brayden Burke.
Bowen, 17, will turn 18 on December 10th. The 1998-born right-winger has recorded 12 points (5g-7a) in 18 games this season with the Warriors along with a plus-5 rating and nine penalty minutes. In 90 career WHL games with Moose Jaw, Bowen has registered 27 points (14g-13a) with 28 penalty minutes.
Bowen was originally drafted in the fifth round (94th overall) in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft by the Warriors. The Penticton, BC product played in 53 games in the 2014-2015 season with the Chilliwack Chiefs of the British Columbia Hockey League where his scored 28 points (10g-18a) along with 31 penalty minutes.
“There’s a number of things that have happened over an extended period of time and we just felt it was time to make a move and kind of shake up our group. We know Burke is a good player but it was time for us to move on,” said Hurricanes General Manager, Peter Anholt. “We’re real pleased with adding Ryan Bowen who is a big kid with real good skill and has some upside for us and along with a couple draft picks too.”
Burke appeared in 128 games as a Hurricane after being acquired from the Red Deer Rebels in 2014-2015. In his 128 games, the Edmonton product registered 166 points (39g-127a) along with a plus-27 rating. He had a career high 109 points (27g-82a) in 2015-2016 while being named as to the WHL East Second All-Star Team.
