Hurricanes Add Yewchuk

Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club announced Friday following their game that they have acquired 1998-born defenseman Kyle Yewchuk from the Edmonton Oil Kings in exchange for a fifth round selection in the 2018 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft.

Yewchuk, 18, was originally a third round pick by the Oil Kings in the 2013 Bantam Draft. He has suited up in 27 games this season with Edmonton collecting five points (1g-4a) along with 31 penalty minutes and a minus-4 rating. The 6’5”, 214-pound right-hand shot defenseman has appeared in 75 career games with the Oil Kings scoring a total of 10 points (1g-9a) and 55 penalty minutes along with a minus-1 rating.

The addition of Yewchuk is the second move this week by the Hurricanes to bolster their blue line after acquiring 6’3”, 200-pound defenseman Brady Pouteau from the Regina Pats on Wednesday.

The Hurricanes now have a total of 23 players on their roster including 13 forwards, nine defenseman and two goaltenders.

The Hurricanes are back in action Saturday when they welcome the Red Deer Rebels at the ENMAX Centre at 7:00pm. Tickets are available online, by calling 403-329-SEAT (7328) or by visiting the ENMAX Centre or Yates Ticket Centre’s.
