Hurricanes Blanked in Moose Jaw
Moose Jaw, SK – The Lethbridge Hurricanes began a three-game road trip on Friday with a 2-0 loss in Moose Jaw to the Warriors.
The Hurricanes surrendered an early power play as Calen Addison was issued a cross-checking penalty just 4:25 into the game but Moose Jaw was unable to capitalize with the extra man. The Warriors did score first as Vince Loschiavo buried his 15th of the season at the 8:11 mark to make it 1-0. Moose Jaw made it 2-0 as Brayden Burke snapped home his 26th of the season while four-on-four at the 16:10 mark to make it 2-0. Warriors outshot the 16-7 in the first period.
Neither team found the net in the second period while the middle frame also didn’t provide any power plays. The ‘Canes were better early in the middle frame jumping out to an early 7-4 shot advantage at the midway point of the period. The best chance for the Hurricanes came when Owen Blocker had a chance at the side of the net but Brody Willms was able to get the pad down to stop the ‘Canes forward. Moose Jaw pressed in the final ten minutes of the period but couldn’t solve Logan Flodell who stopped all 16 shots in the second while Willms turned aside all eight ‘Canes shots.
The Hurricanes, who had posted a 2-0-1-0 record in their last three games when trailing after forty minutes of play were unable to mount a come-back. The ‘Canes and Warriors each had four shots on goal in the third period but both goalies stood tall as Moose Jaw would hang on to the 2-0 win.
The ‘Canes were outshot 36-20 in the hockey game. Lethbridge went 0/3 on the power play but were 4/4 on the penalty kill.
Three stars of the game were:
1) Warriors – #2 Josh Brook
2) Warriors – #35 Brody Willms (20 saves)
3) Warriors – #23 Tristin Langan (1 assist)
The Hurricanes three game winning streak is now snapped as they suffer their first regulation loss in their last six games. The ‘Canes are now 8-3-3-0 in their last 14 games and fall to 25-22-6-0 on the season.
The Hurricanes will continue their road trip on Saturday as they visit the Regina Pats at the Brandt Centre at 6:00pm before they complete the trip Monday afternoon in Cranbrook against the Kootenay Ice. The ‘Canes will return home on Tuesday to welcome the Tri-City Americans at the ENMAX Centre.
