Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes ended the month of October on a high as they knocked off the Red Deer Rebels by a 6-1 score Saturday night at the ENMAX Centre in the final of a brief two game home stand.
Five separate Hurricanes had multiple point nights including Jordy Bellerive, Ryley Lindgren and Tyler Wong who all had three point efforts. Stuart Skinner was sharp making 26 saves in the victory that snapped a six game losing streak for the Hurricanes.
The Hurricanes carried over momentum that they built in the third period of Friday’s game against the Prince George. After a good opening two minutes for the Rebels, the Hurricanes started to find their game. The Hurricanes, helped by power plays, started to generate some scoring chances including a Tyler Wong goal post with the extra man. The ‘Canes finally broke through and opened the scoring for the first time in five games with a late goal that bounced off Giorgio Estephan and passed Rebels goalie Riley Lamb to make it 1-0 ‘Canes with just 29.1 seconds left – Igor Merezhko and Bellerive picked up the helpers. The Hurricanes outshot the Rebels 13-9 in the first period.
The ‘Canes continued their strong play in the second period as they added to their lead. Bellerive scored his third of the season on a power play with a bullet over the glove of Lamb to make it 2-0 Lethbridge – assists went to Lindgren and Wong. It was the first time in five outings that the Hurricanes scored more than one goal. The ‘Canes got their third on a fourth line shift off the stick of Tanner Nagel who scored his first as a Hurricanes to make it 3-0. The Rebels got on the board late in the period as Evan Polei scored his seventh of the season on a power play with just 14 seconds left to cut the ‘Canes lead to 3-1 after forty minutes. Rebels outshot the ‘Canes 10-5 in the middle frame.
In the third period, the Hurricanes took the game back over outshooting Red Deer 10-8 in the final twenty minutes. After a big penalty kill early in the period, the Hurricanes added three more goals en route to the win. First Wong netted his seventh of the year at the 6:54 mark with the assists going to Burke and Lindgren. Just 23 seconds after the Wong goal, Estephan scored his second of the night before Burke rounded out the scoring with his fourth of the season at the 11:37 mark helping the Hurricanes to a 6-1 victory.
The Hurricanes outshot the Rebels 28-27 on the night as they outshot the opponent for the second straight night and for just the third time this season. The ‘Canes went 1/5 on the power play while Red Deer was 1/3.

The win for the Hurricanes improved their record to 6-7-1-1 on the season and snapped a six game losing streak and a five game regulation losing streak. The Hurricanes embark on a three game BC Division road trip on Wednesday in Kamloops. Seven of the next ten games for the Hurricanes will be on the road.
