Edmonton, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes made their first of three visits to the new Rogers Place in Edmonton on Monday night as they took on the Oil Kings and continued their strong play en route to a 6-4 win.
The Hurricanes had a great first period against the OK’s. The ‘Canes jumped out to a 1-0 lead 8:25 into the game as Egor Babenko scored his seventh of the season ripping a shot over the blocker side of Patrick Dea. It took just 1:18 for the Oil Kings to respond as Lane Bauer redirected an Anatolli Elizarov point shot by Stuart Skinner to make it 1-1. Quickly after the media time-out, Tyler Wong scored his team-leading 19th goal of the season on a breakaway at the 10:14 mark – Shaun Dosanjh earned his first point as a Hurricane with the only assist on the Wong goal. The Hurricanes outshot the Oil Kings 15-9 in the opening period.
The Oil Kings had a strong start to the second period as they scored twice in a span of 1:06. First, Trey Fix-Wolansky beat Skinner for his eighth of the season to make it a 2-2 game. They took their first lead of the night at the 7:07 mark as Tyler Robertson scored his tenth of the season to put Edmonton up 3-2. The Hurricanes responded late in the period scoring twice in the final three-and-a-half minutes. Zane Franklin tied the game at the 16:32 mark with his third of the season before Jordy Bellerive put the Hurricanes up 4-3 potting his ninth with 19 seconds left in the period. The Oil Kings outshot the Hurricanes 11-7 in the middle frame.
In the third period, the ‘Canes added to their lead early as Babenko scored his second of the game just 2:13 into the period on a power play to make it 5-3 – Ryley Lindgren and Wong picked up the helpers. Lethbridge added to their lead as Giorgio Estephan continued his tear as he potted his 16th of the season at the 11:07 mark to extend his point scoring streak to seven straight game – Colton Kroeker and Wong earned the assists on the goal that made it 6-3 ‘Canes. Edmonton Captain Aaron Irving netted his ninth of the season with 3:37 left in regulation but that was as close as the Oil Kings came as the Hurricanes hung on to a 6-4 victory.
The ‘Canes were outshot 9-4 in the third period. Shots ended 30-28 in favour of the Oil Kings in the hockey game. The ‘Canes went 1/5 on the power play while they were 5/5 on the penalty kill.

The win for the Hurricanes improved their record to 14-11-2-2 on the season and pulled them into a two-way tie with Red Deer for second in the Central Division with 32 points. The ‘Canes are 7-0-1-0 in their last eight games.
