Hurricanes Doubled by Cougars 4-2
Prince George, BC – The Lethbridge Hurricanes played the second of a back-to-back in Prince George on Saturday as they earned a 4-2 loss to the Cougars to split the weekend.
The Hurricanes fell behind early in the game as the Cougars struck on a power play when Jared Bethune stepped over the blue-line and blasted home his 16th of the season as the puck dipped on ‘Canes starter Logan Flodell to make it 1-0 Prince George 3:27 into the game. It was the first time in five games that the ‘Canes didn’t score the first goal of the game. The ‘Canes answered to tie the game as Keltie Jeri-Leon scored a beauty on a breakaway registering his third goal of the year to make it a 1-1 tie at the 12:45 mark; Brendan Stafford and Owen Blocker earned the assists. Just 37 seconds later, the Hurricanes took the lead as Jake Elmer tipped home his 14th of the season to put the ‘Canes ahead 2-1; Brad Morrison and Logan Barlage picked up the assists on the goal. Hurricanes outshot the Cougars 12-11 in the opening period.
It was an even second period that saw both teams’ direct 12 shots on goal. The Cougars equalized the game as Austin Crossley scored his first with Prince George at the 3:39 mark; Crossley pinched in on the rush and snapped one to the goal that was stopped by Flodell, but the rebound went off the shin-pad of Morrison and into the back of the net to make it a 2-2 tie after forty minutes of play.
The Cougars were able to pull ahead midway through the third period as Max Kryski beat Flodell for his sixth of the season to put Prince George up 3-2 as a power play had just expired. Just 16 seconds later, the Cougars struck again as Josh Curtis potted his eighth on a centering pass from Aaron Boyd to make it 4-2 Prince George. The ‘Canes pulled the goaltender but didn’t have enough as they fall to the Cougars by the 4-2 score.
The ‘Canes were outshot 9-6 in the third period and 32-30 in the hockey game. Lethbridge went 0/3 on the power play while the Cougars went 1/7 with the extra man.
