Hurricanes Drop Seventh Straight in Red Deer
Red Deer, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes pit-stopped in Red Deer on Wednesday as they were handed their seventh straight loss falling 5-2 to the Rebels at the ENMAX Centrium.
The Hurricanes had a strong start to the game peppering Riley Lamb early in the game jumping out to an 11-1 shot advantage at the midway point of the period. Red Deer scored to open the scoring however at the 12:45 mark as Kristian Reichel potted his 33rd goal of the season to make it 1-0 Red Deer on just their third shot of the game. Jake Elmer hit a goal-post in response as the ‘Canes trailed 1-0 after twenty minutes. ‘Canes outshot the Rebels 12-8 in the opening frame.
The Rebels, who started the second period with a power play, jumped on the Hurricanes early as Josh Tarzwell buried his 10th of the season on a back-hand just 1:04 into the second period. The ‘Canes answered with a power play goal of their own when Zane Franklin ended a 26-game goalless drought snapping home his 14th of the season to make it a 2-1 game; Brad Morrison and Calen Addison picked up the assists on the goal. The Rebels capitalized on another power play as Reichel scored his second of the night at the 14:33 to make it 3-1 Red Deer. The ‘Canes were outshot 12-10 in the middle frame.
In the third period, the Rebels restored their three-goal lead as Brandon Hagel finished off a three-way passing play for his 18th of the season to make it 4-1. After a Brendan Stafford fight, the ‘Canes got on the board as Jake Elmer ripped home his 18th of the season to make it 4-2; Jadon Joseph earned the only assist on the goal. Red Deer added one more before the game was over as Reese Johnson potted his 23rd of the year to make it a 5-2 final.
The Hurricanes outshot the Rebels 12-5 in the third period and 34-25 in the game. Lethbridge went 1/2 on the power play while Red Deer was 2/5.
