Calgary, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes travelled to Calgary to face the Hitmen for the first time this season in hopes of their second straight win but it was the Hitmen that earned a 6-5 victory.

The Hitmen struck early as Mark Kastelic snapped home his fourth goal of the season on a two-on-one beating Reece Klassen low to the blocker side to make it 1-0 Calgary 6:22 into the game. Hitmen tallied again just 2:58 later as Jake Kryski buried on a three-on-two to make it 2-0 chasing Klassen who allowed two goals on seven shots as Carl Tetachuk came into the game for his first WHL appearance. Tetachuk stopped all three shots he faced. The Hurricanes had a four minute power play in the period but could not capitalize. Lethbridge outshot Calgary 17-10 in the first period.

Calgary added to their lead in the second period as Riley Fiddler-Schultz netted his first goal in the WHL at the 7:41 mark to make it 3-0 Hitmen. Less than two minutes later, the ‘Canes pulled back to within two goals as Jake Elmer snapped home his fifth of the season to make it 3-1; Noah Boyko earned the lone assist on the goal. Tetachuk made three terrific saves to keep the ‘Canes within a pair, but Calgary pulled back forward as Dakota Krebs scored his first of the season with under a minute left in the period to make it 4-1 at the second intermission. Shots favoured the Hitmen 18-12 in the middle frame.

The ‘Canes struck early in the third period as Zach Cox snapped home his first of the season 2:45 into the final frame to make it a 4-2 hockey game; Boyko picked up the lone helper on the goal. But, Calgary restored their lead as Kaden Elder scored his second of the year to make it 5-2 before Kastelic netted his second of the game making it a 6-2 Hitmen advantage. Logan Barlage snuck home his third of the season on a power play at the 13:55 mark to make it 6-3; Igor Merezhko and Elmer picked up the assists on the goal. Barlage potted his second of the night at the 18:03 mark to make it a two goal game again. The ‘Canes pulled the goaltender and pulled to within a goal as Jadon Joseph scored his first of the year on a redirect of a Danila Palivko point shot but that was as close as the ‘Canes would come falling 6-5 to the Hitmen.

Shots in the third period favoured the Hurricanes 10-9 in the third period and 39-37 in the game. Lethbridge went 1/4 on the power play and 2/3 on the penalty kill.

Three stars of the game were:
1) Hitmen – #12 Mark Kastelic (2 goals, 1 assist)
2) Hitmen – #16 Jake Kryski (1 goal, 2 assists)
3) Hitmen – #31 Jack McNaughton (34 saves)

The Hurricanes fall to 3-4-0-1 on the season with the defeat and have now lost five straight games to the Hitmen dating back to last year.
