Hurricanes Make Statement, Beat Pats 4-1
Regina, SK – The Lethbridge Hurricanes continued a five game road trip as they began a four game in five night East Division stretch in Regina against the league-leading Pats. The ‘Canes continued their roll as they picked up a 4-1 win over the Pats.
The Hurricanes had a strong first period on the road. The ‘Canes jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as Matt Alfaro continued his recent roll potting his 23rd goal of the season setting a new career high as he beat the Pats Tyler Brown with a long-range wrist shot – Zak Zborosky and Tyler Wong picked up the assists. Later in the period, Alfaro was assessed a checking to the head penalty and on the ensuing Regina power play the Wong potted his league-leading 46th goal of the season on his 21st birthday to make it 2-0. The ‘Canes were outshot 15-11 in the first period.
It was a back-and-forth second period that saw each team pick up a goal. The ‘Canes were handed a power play just 22 seconds into the period as Dawson Leedahl was issued a cross checking penalty. It took all of 16 seconds for the ‘Canes to strike with the extra man as Wong blew home his second of the night and 47th of the season to make it 3-0 Lethbridge – Brennan Menell and Zborosky picked up the helpers. Regina got on the board late in the period as Leedahl netted his 32nd of the season at the 16:21 mark to make it a 3-1 game – Liam Schioler and Sam Steel picked up the assists. Pats led the shots 16-8 in the second period and 31-19 after forty minutes of play.
The Pats pushed in the third period in an attempt on a come-back but the Hurricanes were strong defensively and Stuart Skinner was outstanding. The Pats pulled the goaltender late in the period and managed a couple of looks but Jordy Bellerive scored his 25th goal of the season in an empty net with 57 seconds left to put the ‘Canes ahead 4-1 – Giorgio Estephan and Ryan Vandervlis picked up the helpers as the ‘Canes went on to the statement victory.
The ‘Canes were outshot 12-8 in the third period and 43-27 in the game. The ‘Canes were 1/4 on the power play and 3/3 on the penalty kill.

The win for the ‘Canes was their third straight victory and improved their record to 19-2-1-1 in their last 23 games and 39-17-4-3 on the season. It was Lethbridge’s first victory in Regina since December 17th, 2014 – a span of five games, regular season and playoffs combined.
The Hurricanes continue their road trip Wednesday when they travel to face the Brandon Wheat Kings at 6:00pm Mountain Time.
