Hurricanes sign Franklin

Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes are pleased to announce the signing of prospect Zane Franklin to the Western Hockey League’s Standard Player Agreement.

At the WHL Bantam Draft in May, the Hurricanes drafted Franklin in the 2nd round (43rd overall.) The 1999-born Centre played with the Lloydminster Heat where he recorded 89 points, including 47 goals, in 27 games. He added another 27 points in 11 games in the playoffs.

Hurricanes Head Scout, Blake Robson says there’s more to Franklin than just being a pure goal scorer. “He also has very good vision, he runs the powerplay but also plays hard both ends of the rink and he’ll be able to put up big numbers in the future. He was also on the Alberta Championship team in the Major Bantam Hockey League.”

In July, Franklin was also among the top 80 players in the province invited to Team Alberta’s U16 Summer Development Camp. The players will continue to be scouted and shortlisted until Team Alberta names the 20 players that will make up the roster to compete at the 2015 Canada Winter Games.

The Lethbridge Hurricanes are set to open their 2014 Training Camp presented by ENMAX on Thursday, August 21st continuing right through the weekend until Sunday, August 24th concluding with the Championship Game starting at 10:45am on Sunday. All on-ice sessions will be held at the ENMAX Centre and they are free and open to the public. The full camp schedule can be found at
