Hurricanes Sign Horon

Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club announced Friday that they have signed 2001-born forward Michael Horon to a Western Hockey League Standard Player Agreement.

Horon, 16, was acquired by the Hurricanes on January 10th from the Everett Silvertips in exchange for a sixth round draft pick in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft. He is a product of Lethbridge and was a ninth round draft pick (190th overall) by the Silvertips in the 2016 Bantam Draft.

This season, Horon has registered 22 points (9g-13a) along with 20 penalty minutes with the Lethbridge Hurricanes Midget AAA hockey team. Last year, the left-handed shot forward collected 77 points (38g-39a) along with 26 penalty minutes in 37 games with the Hurricanes Minor Midget team while adding nine points (6g-3a) in five post-season games.

“He’s one of the players that we’ve watched for a long time. With Bob Bartlett has watched [Michael] play many, many times and knows the situation and know the kid, it was just a real nice fit for us,” said Hurricanes General Manager Peter Anholt. “He’s got a nice skill package, he’s local and is somebody we think can be a real good player for us for a long, long time.”

The Hurricanes return to action Friday when they travel to Red Deer to face the Rebels before welcoming the Kootenay Ice to the ENMAX Centre on Saturday. Tickets for the game can be purchased online, by calling 403-329-SEAT (7328) or by visiting the ENMAX Centre Ticket Centre.
