Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes wrapped up a three-in-three weekend on Sunday as they earned a 5-4 overtime win over the Red Deer Rebels at the ENMAX Centre as the ‘Canes swept the weekend.

The ‘Canes were on their heels early in the first period as the Rebels had an early shot advantage, but it was the Hurricanes the opened the scoring as Taylor Ross tipped home his 14th goal of the season at the 7:06 mark to make it 1-0; Danila Palivko and Dylan Cozens picked up the assists. The ‘Canes added to their lead as Ross banked one off Rebels goaltender Ethan Anders on a power play with just seven seconds left in the period to make it 2-0 at the first break; Nick Henry and Calen Addison earned the assists on the second Ross goal. Lethbridge outshot Red Deer 16-13 in the first period.

It was an even second period that saw some heat early as there was a pair of fights between the two teams. Temperatures settled as the period progressed. The Rebels cut the Hurricanes lead in half at the 7:12 mark as Chris Douglas beat Carl Tetachuk by the blocker to make it a 2-1 game; newly acquired Brett Davis and Dawson Barteaux were credited with the assists on the goal. Shots favoured the Hurricanes 10-8 in the middle frame.

The game blew open in the third period as the Rebels tied the game at the five minute mark when Zak Smith beat Tetachuk to make it 2-2. With 1:17 left, the ‘Canes re-took the lead as Ross completed his first WHL hat-trick to put Lethbridge ahead 4-3 but Davis struck again to tie the game and force overtime.

In the extra session, the ‘Canes had all three shots before Nolan Jones ended the game with the overtime winner 1:50 into the three-on-three five minute period to lift the Hurricanes to their third straight victory; Jordy Bellerive and Elmer earned the assists on the winner.
