Celebrity Dinner Announced: The Hurricanes will host the 12th Annual Celebrity Sports Dinner on Saturday, January 27th at the Coast Hotel and Conference Centre. This year, former Hurricanes goaltender Jamie McLennan along with TSN SportsCentre hosts Natasha Staniszewski and Kate Beirness will be in attendance. Tickets are available by calling 403-328-1986.

AMA Public Skate: The Lethbridge Hurricanes, and the WHL, will be holding an AMA Skate on Sunday morning from 11:00am until noon at the ENMAX Centre. The event is open to the public. All skaters require a helmet and their own skates. The event is FREE and you will get to skate with your favourite Hurricanes player!

THE WEEK THAT WAS

Wednesday, December 27th – 4-2 Loss at Medicine Hat Tigers: The Hurricanes returned from the Christmas break last Wednesday with a 4-2 loss to the Tigers in Medicine Hat. Jordy Bellerive and Lane Zablocki scored in the loss.

Friday, December 29th – 5-4 Win vs. Medicine Hat Tigers: Reece Klassen made 37 saves while five different goal scorers lit the lamp in a 5-4 win over the Tigers. Zane Franklin potted the game-winning goal with less than eight minutes remaining in regulation.

Saturday, December 30th – 3-2 OT Loss at Calgary Hitmen: The Hurrricanes finished the calendar year of 2017 with a 3-2 overtime loss in Calgary to the Hitmen. Jordy Bellerive and Egor Zudilov scored in the loss while Reece Klassen made 27 saves.

Tuesday, January 2nd – 7-0 Win vs. Kootenay Ice: The ‘Canes began 2018 with a bang as they blasted the Kootenay Ice 7-0 at the ENMAX Centre. Stuart Skinner made 20 saves for his 10th career shutout to become the all-time leader in franchise history while Giorgio Estephan registered four points in the win.

THIS WEEK’S GAME SCHEDULE

Friday, January 5th, 7:00pm vs. Vancouver Giants: The ‘Canes continue a four game homestand on Friday as they welcome the Vancouver Giants in their final meeting of the season. The ‘Canes defeated the Giants 5-2 on November 22nd at the Langley Events Centre in their only other meeting this year.

Saturday, January 6th, 7:00pm vs. Calgary Hitmen: The ‘Canes welcome the Calgary Hitmen at the ENMAX Centre on Saturday in the final of six meetings this season. The Hurricanes are 2-2-1-0 this season against Calgary having won the first two games but losing the last three meetings.

NEWS & NOTES

Goose-Egg: Stuart Skinner surpassed Logan Koopmans in all-time franchise shutouts on Tuesday, January 2nd as he made 20 saves in a 7-0 victory over the Kootenay Ice. For Skinner, it was his 10th career shutout and fourth this season. He is also the all-time leader in games played by a goaltender and saves.

Inching to 300: Hurricanes Captain Giorgio Estephan is quickly approaching two important milestones. Estephan currently sits with 295 career regular season games and after a four point effort on Tuesday now has 295 career points. Estephan is slated to skate in his 300th career game on Saturday, January 13th against the Kootenay Ice.

Home Ice Advantage: The ‘Canes are making the ENMAX Centre a difficult place to play for opponents once again. The ‘Canes have posted a 11-6-2-0 record on home ice this season and have posted a 4-0-1-0 in their last five at home.
