Celebrity Dinner Announced: The Hurricanes will host the 12th Annual Celebrity Sports Dinner on Saturday, January 27th at the Coast Hotel and Conference Centre. This year, former Hurricanes goaltender Jamie McLennan along with TSN SportsCentre hosts Natasha Staniszewski and Kate Beirness will be in attendance. Tickets are available by calling 403-328-1986.

Give Life Blood Challenge: For the entire month of January, the Hurricanes and Red Deer Rebels compete in the Hockey Give Life Blood Challenge. Lethbridge Canadian Blood Services has 565 open appointments that needs to be filled this month.

Tuesday, January 2nd – 7-0 Win vs. Kootenay Ice: The Hurricanes kicked off 2018 with a bang as they earned a convincing 7-0 win over the Kootenay Ice at the ENMAX Centre. Giorgio Estephan had four points in the victory while Stuart Skinner became the all-time franchise record holder for shutouts making 20 saves. Jordy Bellerive scored twice in the win.

Friday, January 5th – 5-2 Loss vs. Vancouver Giants: The Hurricanes dropped a 5-2 decision on Friday to the red-hot Vancouver Giants. Jordy Bellerive and Giorgio Estephan scored the goals in the loss. The ‘Canes outshot the Giants 35-26 in the game.

Saturday, January 6th – 6-1 Loss vs. Calgary Hitmen: The Hurrricanes were handed a tough 6-1 defeat on Saturday by the Hitmen at the ENMAX Centre. The ‘Canes lone goal came from Jordy Bellerive. The ‘Canes outshot the Hitmen 38-34 in the contest.


Tuesday, January 9th, 7:00pm vs. Red Deer Rebels: The ‘Canes complete a four game homestand on Tuesday as they welcome the Red Deer Rebels to the ENMAX Centre. It’s the first of a home-and-home set with the Rebels.

Friday, January 12th, 7:00pm at Red Deer Rebels: The ‘Canes travel to Red Deer for the first time this season as they play the back-half of a home-and-home with the Rebels. The ‘Canes will make three trips to Red Deer this season.

Saturday, January 13th, 7:00pm vs. Kootenay Ice: The ‘Canes travel to Red Deer for the first time this season as they play the back-half of a home-and-home with the Rebels. The ‘Canes will make three trips to Red Deer this season.

Divisional Week: The Hurricanes play three games this week, all against Central Divisional opponents. The ‘Canes will square off against the Red Deer Rebels twice while facing the Kootenay Ice once. The ‘Canes are 1-0-0-0 this year against Red Deer and 2-0-0-0 against Kootenay.

So Close: Despite a below five-hundred record and back-to-back losses on the weekend to the Vancouver Giants and Calgary Hitmen, the Hurricanes still find themselves just two points back of the Kootenay Ice for second place in the Central Division. The ‘Canes also have three games in hand on the Ice and they play five more times.
