PLAYOFF GAME DAY: Hurricanes Look to Stay Perfect at Home in Game 2 Against Wheat Kings

Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes will look to take a 2-0 series lead as they welcome the Brandon Wheat Kings tonight in Game 2 of their second round best-of-seven series at 7:00pm at the ENMAX Centre.

The Hurricanes earned a 5-1 victory last night in Game 1 over the Wheat Kings. Jordy Bellerive and Taylor Ross each scored twice while Jadon Joseph added the other in the victory. Brad Morrison and Calen Addison each had three assists in the victory while Logan Flodell made 25 saves.

The Wheat Kings lone goal came off the stick of Marcus Sekundiak in the second period. Dylan Myskiw, who made his fifth straight start in the WHL Playoffs, made 30 saves in the losing cause. Brandon was 0/2 on the power play while Lethbridge was 4/6 with the extra man.

PLAYOFF SERIES: Tonight will be Game 2 of the best-of-seven second round series between the Hurricanes and the Wheat Kings. The Hurricanes leads the series 1-0. It will be the first time the two have faced off in the post-season since 2008 when the ‘Canes eliminated the Wheaties in six games.

Three Before: The Hurricanes and Wheat Kings have met in the post-season on three prior occasions with the most recent being in 2008. The ‘Canes have posted a 1-2 series record against the Wheat Kings in their three prior meetings. Lethbridge won in six games in 2008 while Brandon won in four games in 1998 and five games in 1994. The team with home-ice advantage as won all three prior series.

Experience: The Hurricanes have 305 man-games worth of playoff experience. Of all the ‘Canes, the most experienced is Igor Merezhko who has skated in 31 post-season games. The ‘Canes entered the 2018 playoffs with 190 games worth of playoff experience compared to 95 when they started the 2017 playoffs.

Game 2’s: The Hurricanes enter tonight having posted an all-time record of 15-19 in Game 2’s in their post-season history. The ‘Canes earned an 8-3 win in the second game against the Red Deer Rebels in the first round of the WHL Playoffs.

Go Mo Go: Hurricanes overage forward Brad Morrison has been on a tear in the WHL Playoffs so far as he has racked up 19 points (6g-13a) in six games in the WHL Playoffs; an average of 3.17 points per game. Morrison currently leads the entire WHL in playoff scoring.

Special Teams: The Hurricanes special teams have been terrific in the playoffs. The ‘Canes power play has converted at a 51.8% clip going 14/27 on the man advantage while the penalty kill has killed at 81.3% (26/32). The ‘Canes PP was just 2/36 (5.6%) and PK was 62.2% (23/37) in their final nine regular season games.
