Canes Wrap B.C. Road trip with 2-1 loss in Kamloops
Sat, February 6th, 2010
Rookie Anderson makes 32 saves in loss
Kamloops, BC - The Hurricanes entered the night looking to end a seven game losing skid and conclude their BC Division road trip with a bang as they came flying out of the gates, outshooting the Blazers 13-10 in the opening 20 minutes. Finally, it was Carter Bancks who opened the scoring just minutes into the second period with a tip off a nice feed from new linemate Dustin Donaghy to give the Canes a 1-0 lead. Brandon Anderson continued to stand tall in the Canes net as he held the Blazers scoreless for two periods and 24 shots.
But the Blazers would battle back to tie the game 1-1 with a power play marker just 45 seconds into the third and continue to pressure. But as things have gone much of this road trip, an inopportune bounce cost the Canes a goal as a Kamloops shot bouncd off a Canes defender to give the Blazers a 2-1 lead. A last minute Hurricanes attack with 6 on 4 power play advantage still could not produce for Lethbridge as the Canes dropped their eighth straight. Anderson finished the night with a 32 save performance as the Canes power play was held to 0 for 4 on the evening.
The Canes will return home tonight and then kick of another pair of games on the road as they take on the Red Deer Rebels on Tuesday night in Red Deer before making the trip up Highway 2 to take on the Oil Kings in Edmonton. Game time is 7:00 PM MST. in Red Deer. Be sure to tune into the game live with the voice of the Hurricanes; 94.1 FM - The Lounge, as Pat Siedlecki calls all your Hurricanes action. Canes lose 3-2 in Kelowna
Fri, February 5th, 2010
Rowat posts 43 save performance in loss
Kelowna, B.C.- A skeleton crew of 10 forwards and 5 defenseman battled the defending WHL Champions to a heartbreaking 3-2 loss in their own barn on Friday night in Kelowna. The Hurricanes entered the night having given up early three goal leads in both of their previous games. But it was the Canes who kicked things off early in this one as Landon Oslanski notched a goal just a minute into the game to give the Canes an early 1-0 lead. Linden Rowat stood tall in the Lethbridge net and rebounded from two rough starts with a 19 save first period as the Canes were out shot 19-9.
The Rockets started the second period with a 5 on 3 advantage and the second placed home powerplay in the league managed to draw the equalizer. The Canes then fell behind for the first time at the eight minute mark of the second period. Rookie phenom Mitch Maxwell then tallied his 24th of the season; snapping home a pretty feed from Austin Fyten to tie the game 2-2.
A fast paced back and forth third period followed as Rowat continued to keep the Canes in it, but the Rockets would finally jam home their third of the night for the game winner in a mad scramble with just over five minutes remaining in the game. Rowat would finish the night with an impressive 43 saves and the night's 1st star honors.
The Canes will wrap up their B.C. Division road trip on Saturday as they take on the Kamloops Blazers. Game time is 8:00 PM MST. Canes outplayed 11-1 in Langley
Wed, February 3rd, 2010
Lethbridge outshot 50-17 in 11-1blowout
Langley, BC - The Hurricanes were slow out of the gates once again as the Giants
jumped out to a 2-0 lead just four minutes into the first period off the sticks of
Lance Bouma and James Henry. The G-men would continue to pour it on as they would extend the game to a 3-0 lead entering the second. Langley native Brandon Anderson still had an honest effort with 10 saves off 13 shots in the first period. Lethbridge came out firing in the second period, starting the frame with a power play goal off a shot from Daniel Johnston that took a bounce a giants shinpad and then the stick of Captain Carter Bancks before finding the back of the net for his 13th of the season. The Lethbridge momentum stalled once again however as the G-men turned an inopportune turnover into a short handed goal, giving Vancouver a 4-1 lead still early in the second. The Giants would then further their lead to 6-1 entering the final frame as the Canes were outshot 21-6. Anderson would end his night with 26 saves as Rookie Ville Kolppanen would take over between the pipes in the third.
The final period would see more of the same as the Canes were continually unable to stop the Giants assault. The Hurricanes had plenty of fight in them, totalling 4 fighting majors and the power play was 1 for 3 on the night and held the Giants to 1 for 6 with the man advantage despite the lopsided score.
The Canes will continue their B.C. Division road trip on Friday as they take on the defending WHL Champion Kelowna Rockets. Game time is 8:00 PM MST. Be sure to tune into the game live with the voice of the Hurricanes; 94.1 FM - The Lounge, as Pat Siedlecki calls all your Hurricanes action.
