12-03-2016: Hurricanes (2) at Rebels (3) OT
Red Deer, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes kicked off a two-game road trip on Saturday in Red Deer in the second of a back-to-back, home-and-home set with the Rebels as the ‘Canes dropped a 3-2 overtime decision.
The Rebels and Hurricanes played an entertaining first period with countless chances for both sides. Stuart Skinner was sharp early making a handful of great saves to keep the game scoreless. The Hurricanes had some good looks but missed the net. The Rebels opened the scoring at the 14:27 mark as Adam Musil tipped home a centering pass from Colton Bobyk to make it 1-0 Red Deer. The Rebels outshot the Hurricanes 8-5 in the first period and held the 1-0 lead after twenty minutes of play.
The Hurricanes had a lot of zone time in the second period and some great opportunities but the team continued to miss the net with their shots including a Tyler Wong breakaway that went wide of the goal. The Rebels added to their lead as Musil potted his second of the game at the 11:42 mark to make it 2-0 Rebels. Hurricanes were outshot 10-7 in the second period and 18-12 through two periods.
The Rebels took a late penalty in the second period that carried over to the third period and the Hurricanes struck early to get within one as Tanner Nagel scored his third of the season on a backdoor feed from Brennan Menell just 21 seconds into the period – Wong earned the second assist to get the ‘Canes within one. The Hurricanes continued to press to tie the game and they eventually broke through as Giorgio Estephan netted a game tying goal to make it 2-2 with 2:31 left in the third period.
The game went to overtime and after a great chance early in the extra frame, Brandon Hagel made good on a second opportunity as he beat Skinner over the glove on a one-timer 1:50 into the overtime period earning a 3-2 victory of the Hurricanes.
The Hurricanes were outshot 30-24 in the game. The ‘Canes went 1/4 on the power play while the Rebels were 0/3.

The Hurricanes six game winning streak was ended with the 3-2 overtime loss. The ‘Canes record falls to 13-11-2-2 on the season.
The Hurricanes return to action on Monday as they wrap up the two-game road trip in Edmonton against the Oil Kings at Rogers Place at 7:00pm.
