Hurricanes Announce 2021-2022 Annual Award Winners

Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club have announced their 2021-2022 Annual Team Award winners, including Most Valuable Player, Rookie of the Year and Fan Favourite.

The 2021-2022 award recipients are as follows:

106.7 ROCK Three Star Award – Justin Hall
Canadian Tire South Top Scorer – Justin Hall
Herman Elfring Community Relations Award – Ty Nash, Bryan Thomson
Hockey Hounds Scholastic Award – Logan McCutcheon
Dennis Dirtwox Fan Favourite – Jett Jones
ENMAX Corporation Hardest Working Award – Jett Jones, Ty Nash
Serfas Farms Top Defenseman – Kade Nolan
Joan Kobal Award for perseverance, dedication and sportsmanship – Alex Thacker
Carl Trentini Memorial Award, Rookie of the Year – Logan Wormald
Harry Ingarfield Memorial Award, Most Valuable Player – Justin Hall

106.7 ROCK Three Star Award:

The 106.7 ROCK Three Star Award winner in 2021-2022 is Hurricanes forward Justin Hall.

Hall, who hails from Edmonton, Alberta, was named a game star a total of 15 times. He was named the first star on a whopping 10 occasions while being named second star twice and third star three times. In the 15 times Hall was named a star, the Hurricanes won 13 times.

Canadian Tire South Top Scorer Award:

The Canadian Tire South Top Scorer Award winner in 2021-2022 is Hurricanes forward Justin Hall.

Hall has totaled a career-high 73 points this season smashing his previous highs in goals (34), assists (39) and points (73). Hall leads the team in goals, points, power play goals, shorthanded goals and game-winning goals. It is the second straight season that he has led the team in scoring becoming seventh player in franchise history to lead the team in scoring in two seasons.

Herman Elfring Community Relations Award:

The Herman Elfring Community Relations Award winners in 2021-2022 are Hurricanes forward Ty Nash and goaltender Bryan Thomson.

Nash, a first-time recipient, resurrected the Goals for KidSport program originally started by former Hurricanes Captain Tyler Wong. Nash this season committed to donate $10 for every goal he scored during the 2021-2022 season to KidSport Lethbridge and Taber. In total so far, Nash has donated $170 this season by scoring a career-high 17 goals.

Thomson, also a first-time recipient, has become a team ambassador for Hockey Gives Blood program with the Canadian Blood Services. Thomson’s work with Hockey Gives Blood has helped raise awareness for Canada plasma and blood donors.

Hockey Hounds Scholastic Award:

The Hockey Hounds Scholastic Award winner in 2021-2022 is Hurricanes defensemen Logan McCutcheon.

McCutcheon, enrolled at Centennial Collegiate, has demonstrated a keen ability to excel both on the ice and in the classroom during an incredibly difficult time. The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan product finished this year with an overall average of 92% after finishing with a 90% average last year. He achieved these high averages while completing all courses independently and online.

On the ice, McCutcheon – in his second season with the Hurricanes – has set a career-high in goals (4), assists (23) and points (27). The second-year rearguard sits second in defenseman scoring while leading the Hurricanes in power play assists.

It is the second-straight season that McCutcheon has been named the Scholastic Award winner and is the fifth player in Hurricanes history to win the award on multiple occasions.

Dennis Dirtwox Fan Favourite Award:

The Dennis Dirtworx Fan Favourite Award winner in 2021-2022 is Hurricanes forward Jett Jones.

Jones is a second-time recipient of the Hurricanes Fan Favourite Award after winning it in 2019-2020. The Olds, Alberta product serves as a Co-Captain of the Hurricanes. This year, the 19-year-old has set a career high in goals (20), assists (21) and points (41).

He received a whopping 48,645 total votes for Fan Favourite. Jones is the eighth player in Hurricanes history to win the Fan Favourite Award more than once.

ENMAX Corporation Hardest Working Award:

The ENMAX Corporation Hardest Working Award winners in 2021-2022 are Hurricanes forwards Jett Jones and Ty Nash.

Jones is a first-time recipient of the Hurricanes Hardest Working Award. The co-captain of the Hurricanes has solidified himself as one of the premier shut-down centre-icemen in the WHL along with setting new career highs in all offensive categories.

Nash, who has set new career highs himself in goals (17), assists (21) and points (38), is a two-time winner of the Hardest Working Award. The Scottsdale, Arizona product is the sixth player in Hurricanes history to be named the Hardest Working Award.

It is the fourth time in franchise history that the Hurricanes have named two players as the co-winners of the Hardest Working Player.

Serfas Farms Top Defenseman Award:

The Sefas Farms Top Defenseman Award winner in 2021-2022 is Hurricanes defenseman Kade Nolan.

Nolan was acquired by the Hurricanes in November from the Portland Winterhawks. The overage defenseman has appeared in 49 games this season with the ‘Canes matching a career-high in points while setting a new career-high in goals. The Rouleau, Saskatchewan product has proven to be one of the Hurricanes best defensive defenseman.

Nolan has served as an alternate captain for the Hurricanes this season.

Joan Kobal Memorial Award:

The Joan Kobal Memorial Award – which awards a player who demonstrates perseverance, dedication and sportsmanship – in 2021-2022 is Hurricanes forward Alex Thacker.

Thacker has had a career season shattering his previous career-highs in goals, assists and points. The Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta product has points 62 points during the 2021-2022 season while registering just 24 penalty minutes this year. The 19-year-old sits second on the team in scoring.

Carl Trentini Memorial Award (Rookie of the Year):

The Carl Trentini Memorial Award winner in 2021-2022 as Rookie of the Year is Hurricanes forward Logan Wormald.

Wormald has had a tremendous 16-year-old season with the Hurricanes. After not starting the year with the ‘Canes, the Langley, British Columbia product has racked up 36 points (14g-22a) in 53 games this season. He is the first s16-year-old since Zack Stringer to reach the 30-point plateau in his rookie season.

Wormald is the third straight 16-year-old to capture the Carl Trentini Memorial Award for Rookie of the Year.

Harry Ingarfield Memorial Award (Most Valuable Player)

The Harry Ingarfield Memorial Award winner as Most Valuable Player in 2021-2022 is Hurricanes forward Justin Hall.

Hall has had a tremendous overage season with the Hurricanes leading the team in scoring. The Edmonton, Alberta product has set new career-highs in all offensive categories reaching the 30-goal and 70-plateau for the first time in his career. He leads the Hurricanes in goals, points, power play goals, shorthanded goals and game-winning goals.

The final year forward has spent his entire four-year WHL career with the Hurricanes appearing in 186 career regular season games totaling 145 career points, including 62 goals and 83 assists, along with 57 penalty minutes.

The Hurricanes begin the 2022 WHL Playoffs on Thursday, April 21st in Game 1 of a best-of-seven quarter-final playoff series against the Edmonton Oil Kings. The ‘Canes will host Games 3 & 4 on Tuesday, April 26th and Thursday, April 28th at the ENMAX Centre. Individual game tickets for the 2022 WHL Playoffs will go on sale on April 21st at 10:00am.
