Hurricanes Drop Third Straight to Moose Jaw

Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes returned to the ENMAX Centre on Friday in their lone home game in a stretch of seven as they hoped to end a two-game losing streak, but the Moose Jaw Warriors earned a 4-1 victory on the road.

The Warriors and Hurricanes traded first period chances but both Bryan Thomson and Carl Tetachuk kept the game scoreless. The ‘Canes had a pair of early power plays but couldn’t solve their former netminder. Moose Jaw opened the scoring when Jagger Firkus ripped home a shot after a turnover to make it 1-0 at the 13:05 mark. Lethbridge was outshot Moose Jaw 6-4 in the first period.

Moose Jaw doubled their lead when Firkus potted his second of the night, and fifth of the season, on a power play just 5:33 into the second period to make it 2-0. Lethbridge – after being shutout in back-to-back games – finally potted a goal when Noah Boyko tapped home a rebound on a power play to cut the Warrior lead to 2-1; Justin Hall and Trevor Thurston earned the assists as the ‘Canes ended a stretch of 170:24 without a goal. The Hurricanes outshot the Warriors 13-12 in the middle frame.

But in the third period, the Warriors added a pair of power play goals. Firkus completed his first WHL hat-trick at the 6:49 mark on a three-way passing play to make it 3-1; Denton Mateychuk and Ryder Korczak picked up the assists. Moose Jaw earned another man advantage goal when Eric Alarie banged home a loose puck to make it a 4-1 final.

The Hurricanes outshot the Warriors 30-29 in the contest. Lethbridge was 1/5 with the power play while Moose Jaw went 3/7 with the extra man.

The loss for the Hurricanes extended their losing streak to three-straight games as they have been outshot 18-1 in that span. Lethbridge falls to 4-3-0-0 on home-ice and 5-6-0-0 overall on the season.

Lethbridge will embark on a five-game road trip starting Saturday when they visit the Swift Current Broncos at 7:00pm. The ‘Canes will return to the ENMAX Centre on Friday, November 19th when they welcome the Medicine Hat Tigers.
