Hurricanes Earn 4-3 Win Over Rebels Friday

Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes earned a 4-3 victory on Friday in their final home game of the 2021 ENMAX pre-season against the Red Deer Rebels at the ENMAX Centre.

The ‘Canes struck first in the contest as Justin Hall beat Chase Coward on a two-on-one just 4:05 into the game for his second of the exhibition season; Chase Wheatcroft and Ty Nash – who returned from Carolina Hurricanes rookie camp – earned the assists on the goal. Red Deer equalized midway through the period as Kai Uchacz netted his team-leading third of the pre-season to make it 1-1. The Rebels pulled ahead as Arjun Bawa made it 2-1, but just 23-seconds later the ‘Canes tied the game as Peter Repcik scored his first of the pre-season to make it 2-2 after twenty minutes.

Red Deer lead the shots in the first period, but the ‘Canes held the shots 11-6 in the middle frame. Lethbridge potted a pair in the second as Alex Thacker finished on a breakaway for his second at the 13:44 mark after Nolan Bentham sprung him on a tape-to-tape pass to make it 3-2. Justin Hall netted his second of the game with 2:01 left in the period to double the Hurricanes lead 4-2 after two periods.

In the third period, the Rebels pressed for most of the frame outshooting the ‘Canes 14-3 in the final twenty minutes. Red Deer cut the Lethbridge lead to 4-3 when Carter Anderson scored his second of the exhibition season on a power play just 5:23 into the frame. Rebels continued to pepper Jared Picklyk but couldn’t find an equalizer as Lethbridge hung on to the one-goal victory.

The Rebels outshot the Hurricanes 32-22 in the game. Lethbridge went 0/3 on the power play while Red Deer went 1/1 with the extra man.

The win for the Hurricanes improved their record to 2-1-0-0 in exhibition play. Lethbridge will round out the pre-season schedule on Saturday when the play the finale of a two-game set in Red Deer at 7:00pm.

The Hurricanes will open the 2021-2022 regular season next Friday, October 1st when they welcome the Calgary Hitmen at the ENMAX Centre at 7:00pm in the Dairy Queen Home Opener.
