Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes began a brief two-game homestand on Wednesday with a 3-2 defeat to the hands of the Saskatoon Blades at the ENMAX Centre.

It was another strong period for the Hurricanes who outshot the Blades 11-6 in the opening frame but it was Saskatoon that struck first as Zach Huber buried one by ‘Canes starter Bryan Thomson just 3:37 into the game to make it 1-0. The Hurricanes pushed in the middle of the period with a trio of goal posts but remained behind. Late in the period, the ‘Canes tied the game on a power play as Dylan Cozens scored his fourth goal of the season with 2:01 left in the period to tie the score 1-1; Calen Addison and Dino Kambeitz scored the assists on the goal.

In the second period, both teams had a bushel full of power play opportunities but neither team could capitalize. Lethbridge killed a lengthy five-on-three power play for the Blades in the middle part of the period as the Blades were 0/4 on the power play after two periods. The Hurricanes outshot the Blades 14-7 in the middle frame but the game was tied 1-1 as neither team struck in the second period.

Early in the third period the Hurricanes pulled ahead with a power play goal by Logan Barlage just 41 second into the frame to give the ‘Canes their first lead of the night; Cozens and Addison earned the assists on the goal. Saskatoon pulled even with just 3:01 left in the game as Jayden Wiens banked one off the stick of Thomson and in to tie the game at 2-2. Just 14 seconds after Wiens tallied, Scott Walford beat Thomson with a point-shot from the left point to put Saskatoon ahead 3-2, which would be the final.

Shots in the third period favoured the Hurricanes 13-9 as they outshot the Blades 38-22 in the hockey game. Lethbridge went 2/5 on the power play and 5/5 on the penalty kill.

Three stars of the game were:
1) Blades – #30 Koen MacInnes (36 saves)
2) ‘Canes – #24 Dylan Cozens (1 goal, 1 assist)
3) Blades – #6 Scott Walford (1 goal)

The loss drops the Hurricanes home record to 0-2-0-1 on the season and 2-2-1-0 overall on the campaign.
