Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes continued their home-stand at the ENMAX Centre on Saturday with a 3-2 shootout loss to the Saskatoon Blades.

The Hurricanes, who received Igor Merezhko back into the line-up after serving a two-game suspension, struck early on a power play opportunity in the first period as Keltie Jeri-Leon ripped home his second of the season to make it 1-0 Lethbridge 3:18 into the game; Ty Prefontaine and Jake Elmer picked up the helpers. The ‘Canes got into penalty trouble in the second half of the period and the Blades were able to capitalize on a power play of their own as Josh Paterson tapped home his second of the year to make it 1-1; Kirby Dach and Dawson Davidson earned the assists as the first period came to an end in a 1-1 tie. Saskatoon held the edge in shots 12-7.

It was a scrambly second period for both teams as much of the period was spent in the neutral zone. The ‘Canes pulled ahead in the game as Logan Barlage redirected his second goal of the season tipping home a Danila Palivko point shot to make it 2-1; Dylan Cozens earned the second assist on the goal. Before the period was out, the Blades tied the game as Riley McKay lifted home his third of the year with just 3.1 seconds left in the period to make it 2-2. Shots favoured the Blades 12-9 in the middle frame.

In the third period, the Hurricanes were outshot 10-7 but neither team found the net. There were no penalties in the final frame either. After sixty minutes of play, the game was tied 2-2 as the game went to overtime. Neither team struck in the five-minute three-on-three extra session.

The game went to a shootout and Kirby Dach scored the only goal of the skills competition lifting the Blades to a 3-2 win. Jordy Bellerive, Dylan Cozens and Taylor Ross all failed to score for the ‘Canes in the shootout.

Final shots in the game favoured the Blades 36-26 in the hockey game. Lethbridge went 1/2 on the power play while the Blades were 1/4 with the extra man.
