The Lethbridge Hurricanes continued their three-in-three US Division road trip on Saturday with a 9-1 loss in Everett against the Western Conference leading Silvertips.
The first period was buzzing at the sold-out Angel of the Wings Arena as the Silvertips came out firing holding the early edge in shots but ‘Canes netminder Bryan Thomson stood tall making some key saves early to keep the game scoreless. Everett opened the scoring at the 14:33 mark as Artyom Minulin beat Thomson with a slapshot from the blue-line to make it 1-0. Silvertips struck again just a few minutes later as Zack Andrusiak scored his team-leading 32nd of the season to give Everett a 2-0 lead after twenty minutes of play. The ‘Tips outshot the ‘Canes 15-6 in the first period.
The Silvertips took over in the second period scoring six times on 22 shots on goal. Andrusiak scored his second of the game on a power play just 29 seconds into the period to make it 3-0; Thomson was replaced by Carl Tetachuk after the third goal. Connor Dewar ripped home his 31st of the season on a two-on-one before Reece Vitelli snapped home his sixth of the year on a two-on-one to make it 5-0 Everett. The ‘Canes struck as Justin Hall scored his third of the season finishing on a centering pass by Jordy Bellerive to make it 5-1. But the ‘Tips continued to pour on scoring three more times while on the man advantage. Andrusiak completed the hat-trick on a four-on-three power play to make it 6-1. Bryce Kindopp scored his 24th of the season just 16 seconds later on a power play to make it 7-1 before Gianni Fairbrother potted his seventh of the season with the extra man just 58 seconds after that to make it 8-1 Everett after two periods. Shots in the second period favoured the Silvertips 22-10.
To start the third period, the Hurricanes replaced Tetachuk back with Thomson who had started the game. Everett struck again just 14 seconds into the period on a power play as Kindopp netted his second of the game to make it 9-1 Silvertips, which would be the eventual final.
The Hurricanes were outshot 14-10 in the third period and 51-26 in the game. The ‘Canes went 0/3 on the power play while Everett was 5/9 with the extra man.

The loss for the Hurricanes ends a two-game winning streak as they fall to 16-6-2-2 in their last 26 games. The defeat drops the ‘Canes overall record to 25-14-4-4 on the season and 1-1-0-0 on this road trip.
The Hurricanes will end their road trip on Sunday in Portland against the Winterhawks at 6:00pm MT. The ‘Canes will return to the ENMAX Centre on Friday, February 1st when they welcome the Red Deer Rebels.
