Lethbridge, AB – Game worn. One-of-a-kind. Authentic. The Lethbridge Hurricanes are hosting an online auction for the game-worn blue third jerseys the team wore in the 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 seasons. This is your one and only chance to own these special jerseys!
The third jerseys were introduced to fans on November 9, 2018 as the ‘Canes doubled the Hitmen with a 4-2 victory at the ENMAX Centre that night. Alex Cotton scored his first WHL goal in the second period which ended up being the game-winning goal.
Justin Hall also scored his first WHL goal in these blue jerseys – The Teddy Bear Goal, nonetheless. Hall scored at the 4:07 mark of the second period on November 30, 2018 to send the fur flying on route to a 3-1 win over the Swift Current Broncos. This was the same night that Nick Henry and Jake Leschyshyn made their Hurricanes debut.
The Hurricanes defeated the Red Deer Rebels 6-1 on February 1, 2019 with Leschyshyn, Henry, and Merezhko each scoring twice in the win. This was Merezhko’s first multi-goal game of his junior career. Zack Stringer was called up for the game and recorded his first WHL point with an assist on Henry’s second goal.
Down 3-2 in the best-of-seven series in the first round of the 2019 WHL Playoffs against the Calgary Hitmen, the Hurricanes defeated the Hitmen 7-6 in overtime to force game 7. The ‘Canes scored three times in the first period before Addison tied the see-saw game with :33 to spare. With goals from seven different players on the night, Taylor Ross scored the overtime winner on a wrap-around at 3:57 to tie the series at 3-3 and force game 7.
The Hurricanes opened the 2019/2020 season sporting these blue jerseys!
Chase Wheatcroft scored his first WHL goal on a breakaway against the Winterhawks on October 4, 2019 to tie the game at 2. The Hurricanes would go on to defeat the Winterhawks 4-2.
Adding to the list of players who scored their first WHL goal sporting these blues is rookie, Jett Jones. Jones potted his first on October 18, 2019 agaisnt the Regina Pats.
Arntsen’s first WHL goal came on October 25, 2019 as the Hurricanes beat the Wheat Kings 5-2 at the ENMAX Centre. With 3-seconds left in the game, Barlage won the faceoff back to Arntsen who took a shot from the point and beat Kruger glove side.
On November 8, 2019 the Hurricanes erased a 3-0 third period deficit to come back and win 4-3 in a shootout against the Edmonton Oil Kings in one of the most exciting games of the season. Cotton scored with :27 left in the game to send it to overtime. Carl Tetachuk stopped all four Edmonton shooters in the shootout.
For the second year in a row, the Hurricanes sported the blue jerseys for the Canadian Tire Toque and Teddy Toss. In front of over 5,000+ fans at the ENMAX Centre, the WHL goal leader at the time, Oliver Okuliar finds the back of the net to send the bears flying midway through the first period. Cotton would score for the ‘Canes as Okuliar adds a second in an eventual 4-3 shootout loss to the Tigers.
On January 17, 2020, Ty Prefontaine and Dylan Cozens were named the 27th and 28th Captains in Hurricanes franchise history, serving as co-captains for the remainder of the 2019/2020 season. Prefontaine sported the “C” first at the game that night when the ‘Canes welcomed back Calen Addison and Dylan Cozens who were away with Team Canada for the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship. Lethbridge defeated the Rebels that night with a 4-3 overtime win.
With the Winnipeg ICE in town for back-to-back games, the Hurricanes drew first blood with a 5-4 victory on Valentine’s Day. A thrilling game as Dylan Cozens recorded his 5th WHL hat trick, prior to taking a puck to the face in a moment none of us will forget.
And, on February 28th, 2020 in the final home appearance of the blue jerseys, the Hurricanes defeated the Edmonton Oil Kings 5-4 in a shootout. Zack Stringer scored with under a minute to go to tie the game; Brett Davis scored twice in the game and a third time in the shootout earning him 1st star honours on the night. Both Davis (2G, 1A) and Alex Cotton (3A) recorded 3 points on the evening and scored in the shootout.
