Red Beats White in Overtime

Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes held their annual Red versus White intrasquad game on Monday night at the ENMAX Centre in front of over 700 fans as Team Red defeated Team White 3-2 in overtime.

The teams skated to a scoreless first period that saw goaltenders Akira Schmid and Reece Klassen stand tall. Schmid and Klassen remained air-tight in the first half of the second period as neither surrendered a goal in half a game’s work. At the midway point of the second period, Schmid was replaced by Bryan Thomson while Klassen was relieved for Carl Tetachuk.

Quickly into Tetachuk’s night, Team White was able to open the scoring with Logan Barlage in the penalty box for slashing. Kyron Crosby was able to beat Tetachuk at the 11 minute mark of the second period to make it 1-0 – Tristan Kimmen and Michael Horon earned the assists on the goal. Team Whit added to their lead at the 16:52 mark as Jordy Bellerive set up defenseman Danila Palivko in front of the net and the Belarussian rearguard made a nice move to the backhand before slipping the puck into the net as Team White led 2-0 after forty minutes of play.

Team Red struck early into the third period as Dylan Cozens cashed in beating Thomson just 4:58 into the final frame to cut Team White’s lead in half; Noah Boyko and Alex Cotton drew the helpers. Cotton tied the game at the 11:21 mark as he ripped one over the glove of Thomson to make it a 2-2 tie – Owen Blocker and Calen Addison earned the assists.

Neither team would score before the end of the third period setting up overtime. Both teams had chances in the five-minute three-on-three session before Addison ended the game with 1.9 seconds left in the extra session on a breakaway beating Thomson low glove side to give Team Red a 3-2 win; Cozens and Jacob Boucher earned the assists on the overtime goal.

The Hurricanes have now concluded their 2018 ENMAX Training Camp. The ‘Canes will open the 2018 ENMAX Pre-Season schedule on Friday, August 31st when they welcome the Medicine Hat Tigers to the ENMAX Centre at 7:00pm. Tickets for the game can be purchased in advance at any Gas King location in Lethbridge, the Hurricanes Office or at the Lethbridge Minor Hockey Office located at the ATB Centre for just $10.00.
