In the other group – Oliver Okuliar and Team Slovakia plays in Group A at the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship taking place in the Czech Republic. The Slovaks will play their preliminary games in Trinec at Werk Arena.
Featuring four CHL players, and just two from the WHL, including Hurricanes leading goal scorer – Oliver Okuliara the Slovaks will play against the defending World Junior Champions – Finland, 2019 WJC fourth-place finishers – Switzerland, traditional favourites – Sweden, and Kazakhstan.
Team Slovakia will face Kazakhstan in their first preliminary game of the tournament on December 27 at 7:00AM MT. The rest of Slovakia’s preliminary games are: (all times listed in mountain time)

The Lethbridge Hurricanes will be represented by Oliver Okuliar on Team Slovakia. Okuliar is the leading goal scorer for the ‘Canes with 23-goals in 32 games; he sits second in points with 42. Having played last season with the Sherbrooke Phoenix in the QMJHL where he amassed 42 points (14G, 28A) in 66-games; Okuliar reentered the CHL Import Draft and the Hurricanes selected him in the first round with the 49th pick. The last player to represent the Hurricanes at the World Junior Championship was defenseman, Luca Sbisa, who played for Switzerland in 2010.
