Mac’s Tournament features Canes draft picks

Lethbridge, AB – It’s the Christmas break in the Western Hockey League but work continues through the holidays for the scouting staff of the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Staff will be in Calgary for one of the biggest Midget AAA tournaments around – the Mac’s Midget Tournament which runs from December 26th through January 1st. The Lethbridge Hurricanes are proud to announce 11 of their draft picks will be lacing up the skates at the Mac’s which is tied with Medicine Hat and Spokane as having the most players by a WHL Club in the tournament. The players are:



1996-Born Players:

  • D – Ryan Pilon, 2011 1st round Bantam pick (Beardy’s Blackhawks)
  • F – Reid Duke, 2011 1st round Bantam pick (Calgary Royals)
  • F – Carter Amson, 2011 2nd round Bantam pick (Saskatoon Blazers)
  • F – Kolten Olynek, 2011 2nd round Bantam pick (Saskatoon Contacts)
  • D – Bryton Sayers, 2011 3rd round Bantam pick (Prince Albert Mintos)
  • F – Tyler Wong, 2011 5th round Bantam pick (UFA Bisons)


1995-Born Players:

  • D – Joel Topping, 2010 2nd round Bantam pick (Red Deer Rebels)
  • D – Lenny Hackman, 2010 9th round Bantam pick (UFA Bisons)
  • F – Chris Thorimbert, 2010 10th round Bantam pick (Saskatoon Blazers)
  • D – Brandon Scheidl, trade with Portland (Saskatoon Contacts)
  • G – Christopher Tai, Listed player (Greater Vancouver Canadiens)


Last year’s Mac’s Tournament featured 6 players currently on the Hurricanes roster – Macoy Erkamps, Craig Leverton, Sam McKechnie, Jay Merkley, Jamal Watson, Jaimen Yakubowski and Tanner Kovacs.
